Handiplac™ started on a windy day when Patty’s disability parking placard flew off the dashboard and out of the open car door. My dad, Al, caught up with his wife’s parking placard four cars down. As he crawled under the car to retrieve the placard, he knew Patty would have never caught up with it. He thought, “There has to be a better way.” The light bulb in his head went off and he called me. As a note, both of our wives have Multiple Sclerosis or MS. So we are not only inventors, we are users. Multiple prototypes follow as we worked our way through how to mount the disability parking placard securely to the dashboard. While staying within the motor vehicle laws concerning the position of the placard. The use of high tech polymers and adhesives made the breakthrough. The U.S. Patent office recognized our design and awarded us with utility patent #7,591,061 in the fall of 2009. Today we are proud to bring Handiplac™ to the market as a useful product.
